Focus on the '70s: The Fabulous Photography of Kenn Ducan
n the 1970s and early 1980s world of photography, Kenn Duncan was a name to be reckoned with. Duncan was a principal photographer for the entertainment magazine After Dark and for Dance Magazine, which chronicled the world of dance and choreography. Photographs by Kenn Duncan also appeared in Vogue,Harper’s Bazaar,Life,Time, and Newsweek. In addition, he photographed a dozen Broadway shows, including "Hair", "Applause", "The Elephant Man", and "Sophisticated Ladies", and published three volumes of his own photographs: "Red Shoes, Nudes, and More Nudes." This retrospective of his 20-year career includes his iconic images of Mikhail Baryshnikov, Angela Lansbury, Rudolf Nureyev, Bette Midler, and the cast of Hair, as well as selections from his nudes and his work with hundreds of celebrities. Duncan’s complete archive was acquired by the Library in 2003 and is part of the Billy Rose Theatre Division. Capri's Camera on Dance
Celebrity and fashion photographer Frank Capri turns his camera on ballet and modern dancers from the world's leading companies. This stunning collection of work features images of Mikhail Baryshnikov, Julie Kent and Jennifer Ringer taken at several of NYC's iconic locations including the Empire State Building, Times Square and the Brooklyn Bridge. Jazz Tap Ensemble
Jazz Tap Ensemble returns to The Joyce with a celebration of their beloved tap heroes and the premiere of a new work commissioned by The Joyce. Follow in the amazing footsteps of Bojangles, John Bubbles, the Nicholas Brothers, Fred, Ginger, Eleanor, Annie, Gene, Jimmy Slyde and Gregory Hines. Then watch each dancer's unique individuality unfold in Artistic Director Lynn Dally's newest ensemble piece inspired by Jobim's "Black Orpheus." Garnica Leimay
Based in Brooklyn, Garnica Leimay integrates butoh dance, real-time video lighting and live music in a performance experience grounded through the senses, to uncover the ambivalence of human nature. Leimay presents the world premiere of "Antigones", an allegory for the encounter of absence, among families and friends of los Desaparecidos, the 'Disappeared Ones' of Colombia's political upheavals. "Antigones" is a collaboration with the company artistic director/choreographer Ximena Garnica, video artist Shige Moriya, guest director Juan Merchan and sound artist Roland Toledo.
