Wow: Dance Your Dissertation
Washington has a number of heady, thought-filled choreographers who make politically, socially and ethically conscious work. From Liz Lerman to Maida Withers, Deborah Riley to Gesel Mason, Dan Burkholder to Lesole Maine, their artistic output and projects separately delve into areas outside of what is typically thought of by many as the dancer's realm.
That said, this is really intriguing: A group of PhDs dancing their dissertations. For years now the concert dance world, this writer included, has been bellyaching about the inane drivel and competitive sizzle that popular television programs like "SYTYCD" and "Dancing With the Stars" provide. This takes it up a notch, no?
Thanks for sharing this! As a PhD student in neuroscience and an avid dance/theater goer (and blogger), I found it fascinating. I'm hoping to be able to put my PhD thesis into movement possibly for next year's competition. :) I think I'll blog about this too, thanks again.
