Following his outstanding performance in George Balanchine's "Theme & Variations" Jon Axel Fransson was appointed to Soloist at Royal Danish Ballet tonight. Icelandic born Fransson is educated at the RDB School and had his debut as the jester in Peter Martins' "Swan Lake" in his first month as a dancer in 2009. Since then he has impressed in a wide repertoire covering all genres. Jon Axel Fransson is as home in Russian Classics and Balanchine as he is in Bournonville and contemporary choreography. A strong virtuoso and partner and a character actor as well, he is a natural successor to important emploie in the Danish tradition. Last year Silja Schandorf and Nikolaj Hübbe created the role of Rothbart in "Swan Lake" for him, and the role used his skills and duality to the max.
Jon Axel Fransson 's repertoire includes the Prince in "Sleeping Beauty", the cavalier in "The Nutcracker", Soloist in "Etudes", Gurn in "La Sylphide", Soloist in "Agon",The Count and Gaston Rieux in "Lady of the Camellias" , Gert in "The Kermesse in Brügges" and various solos and Pas de Deuxs. He has created roles in ballets by Yuri Posochow, Alessandro Sousa Pereira etc.
The appointment was made during the RDB tour to Arhus Copenhagen.
