According to a facebook update Silja Schandorff has decided to resign as Deputy Artistic Director at Royal Danish Ballet. Silja Schandorff has been part of the RDB top management for almost all of Nikolaj Hübbe's reign as director and as Associated Arrtistic Director, following her long and impressive career as the company leading ballerina. As the facebook update state she will take part of staging the run of "Swan Lake" and the upcoming "Giselle" with Nikolaj Hübbe.
Losing Silja Schandorff is a major blow for the company. She has been the guiding light for many of the dancers and she has been the link to the tradition for the company. With "Swan Lake" she also found her own choreographic outlet. She will be very hrd to replace.
Her update on facebook is quoted here:
I have been at the amazinq and beautiful Royal Danish Theater since I was 6 years old.
I went through the ranks, and began coaching and teaching at the end of my dancing career. Then I became part of the administration, first as Artistic Coordinator and in 2011 Associated Artistic Director. During this time, I have had many wonderful experiences! Now it is time to open a new chapter in my working life. That means that I have decided to stop as Associate Artistic Director aft...er the summer.
I will however be back in august to stage Swan Lake and the new Giselle with The Royal Danish Ballet.
I am not entirely sure what the new chapter in my working life will look like… but I am very exited to find out.
I want to thank everyone, who has been part of my path for all these years.
Lots of love. Silja
