Seeing the third performance of George Balanchine’s “Jewels” with the Royal Danish Ballet confirms that it was a very good decision to bring it to Copenhagen.
The first performances showed how strong and unison the company has become. The third performance showed not only development but also as importantly establishing ownership.
Compared to the premiere, “Emeralds” is now oozing of confidence. Susanne Grinder is still the main attraction, but Amy Watson looks like she has found her interpretation. The cast have reached the point where the choreography really shines.
The evenings performance of “Rubies” is at least as sharp, charming and impressing as on first night. The outstanding trio Jon Axel Fransson, J’aime Crandall and Astrid Elbo is as fierce, funny and fast as on first night or perhaps even more. This remains the biggest jewel in the crown.
