In Denmark, we are particularly proud of two trades, our ballet dancers and our architects. Being a small country, we enjoy whenever one of our ones, gains applause and respect on the international scene.
So in combining the two trades in “Danish Design”, Bellevue Theatre had put the first foot right. However, what look good on paper may not necessarily function on stage.

In 2017, RDB dancer Tobias Praetorius got his big break in the dominating role of Herman in Liam Scarlett´s creation “Queen of Spades” for Royal Danish Ballet. Although he already had covered a broad repertoire including character roles as trolls, modern dance and classic ballet, his interpretation of Herman showed that he could also carry the role of leading man and in this case, a very complex character.
However, this magnificent performance did not lead to bigger chances in leading roles. He was more or less stocked with the same supporting roles; he already had presented and developed for the company.
He then engaged in a project with the classical ensemble Trio Viviro on cocreating a new format for dance and music. The first season took place last year and became a significant succes. Now the partnership is back, this time with more dancers and impressive choreography by significant choreographers.

I cannot remember a year where the Danish ballet companies put up so many summer performance and tours. In top of two international tours, organized by Royal Danish Ballet dancers to New York and Mongolia and the annual “Copenhagen Summer Dance” produced by Danish Dance Theatre, there is also ”World Ballet” primarily featuring British Royal Ballet dancers and Royal Danish Ballet´s own annual tour to the Danish provinces. The Pantomime Theatre in TIVOLI is also presenting small-scale ballets on top of the classic pantomimes.
Oon top of these we will get an another helping from “The Chamber Ballet” produced by RDB dancer Tobias Praetorius and a ballet created by Alban Lendorf at the Bellevue Theatre. This ballet is inspired by world leading Danish architects. I will review these two productions next week.
Copenhagen Summer Dance has been a mainstay on the Copenhagen summer scene for more than a decade. Until last year, CSD took place in one of the most beautiful outdoor rooms in Denmark, the rotunda at the Police headquarters. Unfortunately, terror treats made it impossible to continue the free flow of people into the heart of the police quarters.
