When a young dancer is capable to handle some of the most difficult roles like ”Myrtha in “Giselle” and the Ballerina in “Etudes” it is time for promotion. Yesterday, Artistic Director Nikolaj Hübbe made good on the deed by promoting Emma Riis-Kofoed to the level of soloist.
Emma Riis-Kofoed is born in 1998 and studied at the Royal Danish Ballet School from 2006- 14. As she was part of a very successful tv-series following a group of RDB dancers and students, she is already a well-known name, not only among the balletomanes
She is also one of the first students of the school to have obtained a high school exam. Earlier the Ballet School pupils made do with a primary school degree.
However, the academic focus has certainly not delayed her raise in the company she joined in 2017. Emma Riis-Kofoed is known as an equilibrist dancer and her raise in the company has been fast with a growing number of roles.
On top of dancing the ballerinas in “Etudes” and Myrtha in “Giselle” and “Pas de Deux from “The Flower Festival in Genzano” she is now preparing for the role of the leading ballerina in George Balanchine´s “Ballo della Regina” staged by Merrill Ashley.
I interviewed Emma Riis-Kofoed a few years back. Here is a link to my interview with the young upcoming star. https://danceviewtimes.typepad.com/eva_kistrup/2017/08/smart-girl.html
